As of July 15, 2025, CGI will implement Single Sign-On (SSO) for its online services. This page will serve as a roadmap for the change and, once implemented, serve as an FAQ for common issues with SSO.
What is SSO? How will this benefit me?
Single Sign-On is a state-of-the-art authentication technology that allows you to access multiple applications and services using just one set of login credentials. This means you will only need one email address and one password to access most of your CGI-related resources. You will not need to store (or remember) different login information for different accounts.
What applications will use SSO?
Students | Faculty |
Canvas | Canvas |
Populi | Populi |
CORE Library / EBSCO | CORE Library / EBSCO |
Google (Email, apps) | Google (Email, apps) |
Help Desk | Help Desk |
Zoom | Zoom |
Other services will be added as needed.
When is this change taking place?
Current usernames and passwords will continue to work in individual systems through July 10, 2025. On July 11, 2025, access to all systems will be temporarily disrupted to complete the change to single sign-on. This is after the end of the Spring 2 term, during the break between terms.
It is anticipated that access will be restored around July 15, 2025. At that time, the only way to access systems will be through CGI's new login portal, using single sign-on.
How will SSO work?
Once SSO is live, you will log in to all CGI services through a main login at https://login.cgi.edu. You will be prompted there to enter your Google username and email address.
You will be asked to verify you are logging in through the use of the Duo authenticator app. This app is no cost and is available for i0S and Android mobile phones.
Once you have verified through Duo, you will be able to access all CGI services without logging in again: Canvas, Populi, the CORE Library, etc. You will be able to access those services directly, without logging in again, for about 24 hours.
Note: Because the library uses services provided by a third party (EBSCO) you may be prompted to log in from time to time there, due to EBSCO's own requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prepare? What do I need?
You will need a phone that can receive a text message or use the Duo mobile app. You will need to go through a brief set-up process prior to the start of the Summer term.
More information will be shared here soon.
Do I need to change my Google password?
No -- your current Google password will remain active and will control your access.
I already use Duo for work. Can I use Duo for two different accounts?
Yes -- you will be able to use Duo for both purposes. You will not need to download the Duo app again, but instead will just add CGI as a new account in the app you already have.
What if I don't have a phone that can receive text messages?
If you can receive a text message, you can still use Duo to receive verification codes. If you have a tablet, you may be able to use the Duo mobile app on that device for push notifications.
If you don't have any kind of mobile device, you can use Duo's web-based authentication that provides a one-time passcode via email or through an alternate device.
Will my old library account transfer?
Unfortunately, they will not. Before you lose access to your old account, we recommend you download the contents of your EBSCO personal folder. See Prepare Your Library Account: Downloading Your Personal Folder from the CORE Library.
I'm an international student. Can I still use Duo?
As long as you can receive an SMS text message or can access Duo via the web, it should work. Additional messaging rates may apply for SMS messages.
