Your Canvas account is created by the student information system, Populi. When it creates that account, it usually selects your CGI email address as the email address attached to your Canvas account.
However, you can add other email addresses and a phone number to your Canvas account. Here's how:
1. Go to your Canvas Account / Settings.
2. Click on +Email Address.
3. Enter the new email address in the Register Communication popup that appears. Note that you can also add a phone number here under Text (SMS); however, be aware that text (SMS) is only used for Multi-Factor Authentication. Canvas does not use a phone number for text notifications. The Canvas app can be used to receive push notifications on a mobile device.
4. You should now see the new email address appear under Ways to Contact. A star indicates that this is your primary email address, or the one that Canvas will send all notifications to. This includes password reset links when you click on "Forgot your password" on the login page.
5. If you want to change your primary email address, hover your mouse over an email address. A light gray star will appear. Click on that star to select the email address as your primary email address.
6. You may need to confirm your email address before making any changes. Click on the email address to send a confirmation that verifies you wish to use this email address. Follow the directions once you receive the confirmation link.
