Quizzes and surveys are created by the same tool in Canvas -- the Quizzes tool.
As the instructor, you can use some of the features of the tool that are only available to you to learn the following:
- Have students attempted the quiz (tried to take it?)
- Have students successfully taken the quiz?
- How do I give students extra time or attempts on a quiz?
- What were students' scores?
- How did they answer on individual questions?
- Can I get a report of their answers?
- Can I comment on their answers?
- Can I check their identity verification?
- Can I see how Proctorio rated their performance?
Accessing Quiz Data
Access the quiz or survey either through the Quizzes link on Course Navigation or by clicking on the quiz in a Module.
To See an Aggregate of Scores, Aggregate of Answers in Individual Questions, or to Download a Report of Answers
Click on Statistics . This may be called Survey Statistics if the item is a survey, or Quiz Statistics if it is a quiz.
In the Statistics area, you can view an aggregated, visual report of student performance on the quiz or survey.
At the top, you will see a summary of results, including the average time it took students to take the quiz.
Further down the page, you will see a breakdown of each question and students' responses, presented in aggregate form.
To download a report, click on the Student Analysis button. This will download a CSV file of all responses to your computer.
To See Whether Individual Students Have Attempted an Exam, to See Individual Students' Quiz Answers, or to Create Exceptions for an Individual Student
Click on Moderate .
In this area, you can determine the following at a glance:
The Moderate view can be seen below.
To see a students' individual quiz answers, click on their hyperlinked name.
To create exceptions for students, such as allowing extra attempts or granting extra time, click on the edit icon (the pencil) next to the student's name. A pop-up will appear that will allow you to adjust these items for the individual student.
This box is checked if the student must be remotely proctored. If you uncheck the box, the student will no longer be remotely proctored. Be very careful with this; if you uncheck it, you are now responsible for remotely proctoring the quiz/survey yourself or to get the student to provide independent identity verification.
See Everyone's Individual Quiz Responses, All in One Place
Speedgrader is available for Quizzes and Surveys. You can see every student's individual quiz attempt, and each attempt they made. You can leave comments using the Speedgrader comment tools, and can move quickly between students.
View the Results of Identity Verification or Proctorio Monitoring
The Proctorio Gradebook is a separate view that provides this information.
The Gradebook tab provides you with a summary of student results that are unique to the services Proctorio provides.
If the eye is visible, it means you have already viewed the results for this student. If the eye has a null sign through it, you have not yet viewed the results for this student.
To view results, click on the student's name. This will open a new screen that will report on behaviors observed, the student's testing environment and will allow you to verify the student's identity. Please contact the Help Desk if you need more information or would like a demonstration of how to do this.
