Zoom now requires that users run a minimum version of Zoom. This minimum version, which basically means "how old of a Zoom version you can have and still be able to use the application."
The minimum version you can have is designated by Zoom and it will be updated on a quarterly basis. For the most recent information on the minimum version allowed, see Zoom's Software Quarterly Lifecycle Policy.
Keep Your Zoom Application Updated
It is recommended that you download updates for the Zoom desktop and mobile applications regularly. You can download the latest version at the Zoom Download Center.
If You Do Not Update to the Minimum Version
You may find that you are unable to access CGI course webinars and meetings (such as Town Halls or Advisory Meetings) if you do not have the minimum version of the Zoom application.
Zoom Account Required to Access CGI Webinars and Meetings
For security reasons, it is required that anyone accessing a CGI-sponsored, course-based event such as a webinar be logged into a Zoom account. It can be any Zoom account, such as a basic (no cost) account, your work account, and so on. You can log in to Zoom through the desktop application.
Set Your Zoom Account to Automatically Update
One item that makes the minimum version very easy to manage is to enable a setting in your Zoom account to automatically update.
When you download the most recent version of Zoom, you can enable the feature there:
You can also enable automatic updates in your desktop application's Settings. (Note: The automatic updates feature can only be turned on through the Zoom software application. The setting is not available in the browser interface.)
- In Settings, under General, select the checkbox next to “Automatically keep my Zoom up to date.”
- When a new version of Zoom is available, you will be prompted to update. (If you’re in a meeting, you will be prompted with the update immediately after the meeting ends.)
- You can also choose how frequently to receive updates – “Slow” or “Fast.” The “Slow” option, selected by default, provides less frequent updates and focuses on maximizing stability. The “Fast” option allows you to install the latest features and updates as soon as they become available.
FAQ about Zoom Updates
What happens if I don’t install an update when first prompted?

This auto update feature is currently available only for the desktop Zoom software application on Windows and macOS. Mobile devices can be automatically updated through their respective app stores. Linux is not currently supported.
How often will I receive automatic updates in Zoom?
Zoom’s auto update feature periodically checks to see if a new update is available. Zoom publishes client updates monthly, with out-of-cycle updates as needed. You have the option to receive updates “Slow” or “Fast.” “Slow” provides less frequent updates and focuses on maximizing stability; “Fast” installs the latest features and updates as soon as they are released.
