The Writing Center is available for 30 minutes appointments during any term at CGI (Fall, Spring 1 and 2, as well as Summer). Appointments can be made to receive assistance with the following:
- APA formatting needs and expectations
- Brainstorming ideas to get started on an assignment
- Feedback on a draft
- Help with incorporating instructor feedback on a written assignment
Please be mindful that the role of the Writing Center is not to correct any assignment/paper written by a student. Rather, it is designed to provide helpful feedback that can then be used to improve your writing. In addition, the Writing Center does not provide proofreading services, nor does it help with the creation of PowerPoints or Videos.
Making an appointment at the Writing Center is as simple as going to www.calendly.com/jasonblair to choose a convenient time. Note that you are always welcome to email the Writing Center at writing@cgi.edu if there is not a time available on the calendar that suits you. We will work to get an appointment scheduled for you at an alternate and convenient time.
Once you have set up an appointment, you will need to email a draft of your paper and the assignment instructions to writing@cgi.edu at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. If you are asking for brainstorming assistance, please mention that in your email or calendar invitation and only send the assignment instructions.
Email Feedback: You can also choose to receive email feedback about a draft. Simply email your paper to writing@cgi.edu, state the course name and assignment that you are asking for help with, and then attach your draft. Please allow up to 72 hours to receive your feedback.
Writing Center Closure Dates:
The CGI Writing Center Does Not accept appointments made less than 72 hours before a course end date. For example, if a course ends September 8, the last available appointment for that term will be September 5. All requests for email feedback must be submitted by September 5th as well.
During term breaks, the CGI Writing Center is only open to students in the program's Culminating Project stage. The Writing Center will be closed to all other students during term breaks. Thank you for being so understanding.
A final reminder: All Writing Center services are provided to CGI students free of charge. So, please make use of these valuable resources as we all strive to become better writers together.
